Program 1, 15pts.

Write a PERL5 program which attempts to open a file and read one variable form it. If the file does not exist, set the variable to zero. Then increase the variable aritmetically by one and write back to the file overwritting the previous contenst. Also display the incresed value on the console and then quit the program. This program will be converted eventually into a web page counter.

Hints:

• Code the name of the file you will use to store the number into your program.
• Open that file for reading and read a line into a variable. Close that file.
• If you could not read from that file, assume that the number is zero.
• Increase that variable by one numerically.
• Open the same file once again, this time for writing, and overwirte its contents with the new number. Close the file.
• Print that number also to the screen.
• In case you are not sure, the name of the file should be hardcoded into the program. No user input.
• In order to receive maximum credit "use strict;" and compile with option "-w"

Program 2, 15pts.

Write a PERL5 program which would read a text file line by line and count the total number of non-empty lines and the number of words.

Hints:

• Read a line after line until end of file. For each ine read:
• Count that line if it is non-empty.
• Convert a line into an array of tokens. Split at one or more spaces
  To simplify the problem - You do not have to use regular expressions yet.
• Count the number of elements of that array - the numebr of words in that line.
• In order to receive maximum credit "use strict;" and compile with option "-w"

Testing: test your program first on a small text file. Inculde that file with your homework submission
